The Half, The Half
These images are adopted from the book of Simon Annand’s photo collection - The Half. The photographer accessed to back stages of theatres and taking photographs of actors and actresses during the last half hours of their preparations before the curtains raised. The connoisseurs call this time period “The Half”. Needless to say, “The Half” is a very intriguing time frame to record the images as different individual will react quite differently because of their personalities, experiences, physical and psychological conditions.
Only half of the original images are being painted hints the title of my work - The Half from Simon Annand and The Half from me. My Attempt is to challenge the functions of photography and painting. While the camera honestly recorded the images mechanically that allow the viewer to have empathy of the individuals at certain levels. my painterly images, while has far less accuracy and information than the photographies, put the viewer at the spot to contemplate the subject(s). As the most prominent part - the faces are missing, The viewer will become part of the process to complete the meaning of these images and of course every individual will have their unique interpretations of the images and he or she will naturally become the contributor of the OTHER HALF that constructing the meanings of these "half" images. |
